Biography

Born in 1886, he enlisted as a Private in 1904 and was posted to 2 DLI in Ireland. In 1908, he joined 1 DLI in India and rose to Regimental Quarter- master Sergeant. In 1921, he was made Regimental Sergeant Major of 2 DLI. He was commissioned as a Quartermaster in 1925 and served with 2 DLI and at the Depot at Fenham Barracks, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, until he retired in 1941 as a Major and Quartermaster. "Jimmy" Shields died in South Africa in 1966, aged 80 years.
